A polar bear described as hungry and sick was seen over 300 miles from its habitat in the industrial town of Talnakh in northern Siberia on June 16, according to news reports.
Oleg Krashevsky, who filmed this footage, said the bear was seen scavenging in a garbage dump in Talnakh. He said the bear was not phased by the proximity of people in the town, many of whom gathered to take photos.
Reports said the last time a polar bear was seen in the vicinity of Norilsk was in 1977. Russian authorities were working to assess the bear’s health and address public safety concerns, TASS news agency reported. Credit: @putoranatour via Storyful
