Portions of NC-12 in the Outer Banks in North Carolina were shut down on Tuesday, September 19, as the high tides washed over the roadway as Hurricane Jose passed by off the coast.

The road was closed near the Pea Island Visitors Center, a news report said. The swells also washed over the road in Kitty Hawk at high tide. The worst flooding was on Sunday and Monday in Avon, the report said.

Hurricane Jose was off the Atlantic coast Monday and Tuesday and was forecast to move up along the northeast coast through Wednesday. While the storm was not forecast to make landfall, it was expected to generate high winds, rough surf and heavy rain in areas along the coast. Flooding was also reported along the Delaware coast.
