A Missouri woman recording a thunderstorm in St Louis on Wednesday, July 15, was so startled when lightning struck a tree across the street from her that she fell out of her chair.
Severe weather moved across the St Louis area on Wednesday, bringing heavy rain and impressive lightning, along with power outages for many residents.
Gwendolyn Merz was sitting out front of her apartment filming the storm as thunder rumbled in the background.
At the end of the recording, a massive lightning bolt strikes a tree in the Missouri Botanical Garden, across the road from where Merz is sitting, causing her to fall out of her chair and stop filming.
“I was so surprised, I stopped recording, fell out of the window seat, and started swearing,” Merz included in her original Twitter caption.
According to reports, the storms brought power outages to more than 30,000 residents across Missouri and Illinois, but electricity has since been restored. Credit: Gwendolyn Merz via Storyful
