Man Jailed for Pointing Laser at Police Helicopter in England

A 50-year-old man was sentenced to four months in prison on Tuesday, November 26, after pleading guilty to pointing a laser beam at a police helicopter in Bedford, England, in September, Bedfordshire Police said.

Following the verdict, police shared video of the incident on social media. The footage shows two individuals in a back garden, and one of them pointing a green laser beam at the helicopter.

“Pointing a beam of a laser at any vehicle or aircraft is extremely dangerous. When the laser hits the cockpit of an aircraft the crew can get momentarily disoriented, which can have disastrous consequences,” PC Adam Geary said.

According to police, the perpetrator, Neil Lanham, tried to throw the laser away when he realized he had been identified by the helicopter crew. Credit: Bedfordshire Police via Storyful
