Protesters Deface University President's Residence, Call on Him to Condemn Police, Following Death of Student Activist

Protesters at Hong Kong’s University of Science and Technology (HKUST) on November 8 trashed a Starbucks and defaced the university president Shyy Wei’s on-campus residence, following the announcement of the death of a student protester.

HKUST students also sang Amazing Grace at a graduation ceremony in honor of Alex Chow Tsz-lok. A later ceremony due to be held was cancelled.

Student protesters on campus called on Shyy Wei to condemn police violence, according to reports.

Chow Tsz-lok, a student at HKUST, was found injured on Monday, November 4. His death from his injuries was announced on November 8.

Police were carrying out operations nearby at the time.
