An abandoned seven-story building, previously damaged by an earthquake, according to officials, collapsed in Bahçelievler, a residential suburb of Istanbul, Turkey, on February 14.
People in the surrounding buildings were evacuated immediately as emergency services with sniffer dogs checked for casualties in the debris.
Although the building had been evacuated recently due to safety concerns, the basement was being used by a number of waste collectors without permission, according to Mayor of Bahçelievler Hakan Bahadir.
Istanbul Provincial Director of Environment and Urbanization Hacı Mehmet Güner said that the building had been previously damaged when an earthquake struck the city. It was evacuated in January, Hurriyet Daily News reported. Credit: Kimliksiz Ivar via Storyful
