Joanne Arrowsmith of Tolmie, Victoria, captured footage of a kangaroo shivering in the snow in her family’s garden on August 10, as a cold front hit the region.
Posting the video to Facebook, Arrowsmith wrote that the marsupial was “shivering with the cold.” She told Storyful that her family had recently moved to a new home in Tolmie, and they had “seen this large kangaroo relaxing” on their property in “the previous few weeks.”
Arrowsmith said they experienced the first snowfalls around their new home on Friday, August 9. As the snow continued into Saturday, they saw the “resident kangaroo not enjoying the snow as much as we were.”
She continued, “We spent time watching him through the window filming him but felt so sorry for him as he shivered. We ended up moving away in the hope that he would feel safer and move himself into some sheltered area.” Arrowsmith said the family will now “plan for a shelter and hay for future winters” to help out the local wildlife.
