States of emergency and storm surge warnings were still in effect across Newfoundland and Labrador on January 18, after a massive blizzard swept through the area, leaving behind several feet of snow and causing white-out conditions.
According to reports, strong winds caused drifting and widespread power outages. Crews were working to restore power to 21,000 customers on Saturday.
“To everyone in NL affected by the storm, please listen to your local authorities. We want you to stay safe, and keep the roads clear for emergency vehicles & snow clearing. @BillBlair is in contact with the province & is monitoring the situation. We’re ready to help if needed,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted.
