Texas Residents Resort to Using Kayaks Amid Severe Flooding

Severe flooding across southern Texas left residents in McAllen, Texas, stranded in parking lots and along major roadways on June 21, prompting some to resort to taking to kayaks to get around.

Extended bouts of heavy rains and flash flooding led officials to declare a state of emergency across several counties on June 21.

Flash-flood warnings expired early June 22, but flood warnings persisted due to standing water. Forecasters predicted the possibility of more isolated storms moving through the area later in the day. Credit: Ricardo Desenlaze via Storyful
