Virtual roundtable on Cebuano literature in ‘new normal’ held

IN CELEBRATION of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) National Literature Month, the University of San Carlos Cebuano Studies Center spearheaded the Tertulya sa Panitikang Sebwano on Friday, April 30, 2021 online via Zoom.

The online activity was held in cooperation with the other centers of language and culture in Cebu City — the Cebu Normal University (CNU) and the Cebu Technological University (CTU).

A roundtable on the current state of Cebuano literature in the time of coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic was held as a way to create a space for discussing developments in the field.

Topics included but were not limited to recent publications, activities of writers and writers’ organizations in the “new normal,” literary translation and the challenges of online literature classes.

The participants in the Tertulya sa Panitikang Sebwano were Dr. Christian Ray Licen, CTU SWK (Sentro ng Wika at Kultura) director; Dr. Lita Bacalla, CNU SWK officer-in-charge; Haidee Emmie Palapar, National Committee on Literary Arts Central Visayas coordinator; Jiji Borlasa, chairperson, Women in Literary Arts Cebu; CD Borden, president, Bathalad Cebu; Francis Luis Torres, chair, Inotherwords Inc.; Richel Dorotan, editor, Bisaya; Dr. Bea Martinez, USC SWK director; and Dr. Hope Sabanpan-Yu, Cebuano language commissioner.
