VisMin Cup allows KCS to replace Exciminiano, Mendoza for national finals

Officials of the VisMin Super Cup have allowed the Visayas champions KCS Computer Specialist to replace Finals MVP Ping Exciminiano and top scorer Gryann Mendoza on their roster for the national finals, which will tip off next month.

KCS found itself in trouble after their two best players—who were loaned to the team by the TNT Tropang Giga—were listed on the final roster of TNT for the 46th PBA Philippine Cup. However, the VisMin Cup’s head of basketball operations, Marvin Caro, confirmed that they will allow KCS to replace the two players.

“That’s good for us because of how we play. I need more bodies,” said KCS head coach Mike Reyes, who employs a ferocious style of defense that necessitates fresh legs on the floor. They used that frenetic defense to stymie the star-studded MJAS Zenith Talisay City Aquastars in the VisMin Cup Visayas finals last May and earn a berth in the nationals in August.

Any replacement players that Reyes will tap, though, will not have much time to grasp the intricacies of Reyes’ system, which means the locals will have to bear more of the load moving forward.

“The main core will carry the load while the new recruits will be relievers,” shared Reyes.

Expected to step up are 2019 Cesafi MVP Shaquille Imperial, and former MPBL players Joseph Nalos, Rhaff Octobre, Bernie Bregondo and Michole Sorela. (JNP)
