A BURGLAR caught on closed circuit television (CCTV) camera stealing a cellphone inside a water refilling station Monday dawn, September 12, 2022, in Barangay Labangon, Cebu City remains at large.

The suspect gained entry to the establishment by crawling under the partly opened rollup door and took away the cellphone worth P7,000 inside.

The suspect fled without being noticed as the two store attendants were still sleeping during the incident, which took place at 2:40 a.m. Monday as shown on the CCTV.

The high definition video showing the suspect's bare face was uploaded on the social media and later went viral.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, deputy city director for administration of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO), said they will get a copy of the CCTV footage and distribute it to the different police stations to aid in tracking down the suspect.

Parilla cited the importance of a closed circuit television with high definition quality for the case to be solved immediately.

He said they would request the Cebu City Government to make the CCTV camera as one of the requirements in applying for or renewing a business permit.

They would also include in their request to have owners of private establishments grant the City Hall access to their CCTV recordings so they could easily act on the incident with the assurance to respect their privacy.

“We are also planning kay duna say mi suggest nato nga ang kanang tanang CCTV pwede sya ma-connect sa city hall, naay inter-connectivity within the city, among i-recommend sa city nga ilahang ma-study nga ang tanang CCTV within sa city dunay inter-connectivity,” said Parilla.

(We are also planning as someone suggested that all CCTVs can be connected to the city hall. There is inter-connectivity within the city. We will recommend to the city to study the possibility of having the CCTVs within the city inter-connected with each other).

Parilla admitted that they already talked with City Councilor Philip Zafra about their plans, which he described as very important in preventing and solving crimes in the city. (AYB, TPT)
