THE University of Cebu Webmasters continued on their hot streak in the second round as they vanquished the University of San Carlos Warriors, 74-64, in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Saturday, October 26, 2019.
Darrell Shane Menina had one incredible ballgame as he scored 34 points and added three rebounds and three assists for a UC squad that has remained undefeated in the second round to move to second place in the standings at 7-3.
UC is actually tied with the University of the Visayas in the standings but the Webmasters hold the tiebreaker after claiming two wins over the Green Lancers in the elimination round.
USC, meanwhile, dropped to fourth place as they got pulled down to 7-4.
UC led by as much as 17 points, 47-30, but USC fought back and even briefly took the lead at 51-49. It was a see-saw battle from that point on but Menina shot in a triple, Tosh Sesay completed a three-point play and scored a deuce while Paul Galinato added a layup to give UC a 69-59 lead with 3:05 to go.
USC cut the deficit to five after a short jumper by Froiland Mangubat and a triple from Sommy Managor but Sesay and Luigi Gabisan put the win on ice for UC by making their free-throws with just seconds remaining in the ballgame.
Sesay added 12 points, 17 rebounds, an assist, three steals and four blocks for the Webmasters.
Managor had 19 points for USC while Kurt Trangia added 13.
