THE University of Cebu Webmasters grabbed third place in the standings with a 79-62 win over the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) men’s basketball tournament at the Cebu Coliseum on Thursday, October 24, 2019.

UC is actually tied with the idle University of the Visayas in the standings at 6-3 (win-loss) but the Webmasters hold the upper hand after sweeping the Green Lancers in the elims.

The Webmasters made their move late in the third canto after they scored 10 straight points in a sizzling run sparked by Tosh Sesay and Rodel Gravera to go up, 56-40.

UC extended their lead to a high of 18, 66-48, after another shot by Gravera, this time off a nice feed by Menina. USPF brought the deficit down to 10, 62-72, after a basket by Alje Mendez but Menina quickly shut the door on the Baby Panthers, scoring a nifty layup and two free-throws to raise their lead to 14, 76-62, with under a minute remaining.

Sesay had a monstrous performance of 27 points, 23 rebounds and six blocks while Menina was just as spectacular, scoring 23 and dishing off seven assists.

Sameen Swint led USPF, which lost its fifth game in a row to fall to 3-8, with 13 points.(SunStar Cebu)
