Weekly esports guide (7 - 14 October): GameStart Asia 2019, MPL MY/SG All-star match-up

The second week of October is here, bringing with it more action in the Female Esports League as well as Southeast Asia’s biggest fighting games tournament. Also look out for some MPL action across the Causeway, and some Dota 2 learnings for those keen on making it to the next level.

The Female Esports League is back for its Dota 2 circuit, featuring the best female teams from around the region.

It’s four weekends of group stage action, followed by the playoffs end of October, before the best of the best will meet offline for the FSL Elite.

Singapore's largest gaming convention returns for the sixth time in October. With a theme of "Asian Mythology", there's surely a lot to look forward to, including hands-on demos of upcoming games, a themed escape room called "The Castle" and much more.

There are also several esports events happening within GameStart, including the SEA Major.

Southeast Asia’s premiere fighting game tournament is back again in its umpteenth iteration. The fighting games that will be showcased here include Street Fighter V, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Blazeblue Cross Tag Battle, Under Night In-Birth Exe: Late[st], Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, SoulCalibur VI, Tekken 7, Samurai Shodown, and Guilty Gear Xrd Rev 2.

You might even catch top players like ShenChan, Xiaohai, Snake Eyes, John Takeuchi, and Oil King.

The folks at eGG Network are hosting a special meet-and-greet all-star exhibition leading up to the MPL Malaysia/Singapore S4 playoffs. Team Malaysia and Singapore will square off against each other this coming Saturday at noontime.

Geek Academy and Geek Fam will be hosting a Breakdown Bootcamp, a first-of-its-kind esports experience that offers players a chance to see how professional Dota 2 players think and work. Guests and pro players include:

· Geek Academy head coach ZergRush and Dota 2 coach ShenGG

Ticket prices are RM180, with early bird discounts up to 50 per cent. The session will last 3 hours from 5pm to 8pm

For the first time ever, mobile MOBA Mobile Legends: Bang Bang will have its own world championship tournament. Also dubbed as M1, this major level tournament will pit Asia’s finest against each other and the rest of the world including North America, South America, and Europe.

With a prize pool of US$250,000, fans will be seeing the top 16 professional teams who will take home the lion’s share this November.

ESL will be bringing its Dota 2 Clash of Nations series to an end. Once the five ESL country-specific championships have their teams, they will compete in Bangkok for the lion’s share of the US$50,000 prize pool and the ESL Clash of Nations Dota 2 trophy in Asia.

The fourth Overwatch World Cup tournament will happen during November. However, the format of competing has now changed. Instead of having country-specific qualifiers to determine the final few teams to fight at BlizzCon, the entire tournament will happen during the week leading up to the company game expo.
