Nominees for the awards are decided by the frequency of searches by netizens on Yahoo Search throughout 2020. Though the event could not host a live audience due to the pandemic, the “buzziest” personalities and works had been awarded during the ceremony, all thanks to their overwhelming popularity amongst netizens across Asia.
Connecting people with their passions, celebrities will also be sharing their Passion Moments (#PassionMoments) of 2020 on the xR stage, especially the new skills or having reconnected with forgotten passions during their stay-at-home period in the midst of COVID lockdowns and social distancing.
Top Buzz Song - Breathing is Hazardous by Karen Mok
Karen Mok’s first Cantonese song in a decade, Breathing is Hazardous, is the winner for “Top Buzz Song” at the Yahoo Asia Buzz Awards 2020. Dressed to the nines in Spring-Summer Versace 2021 and Giuseppe Zanotti high heels, Mok received her award from Rico Chan, Co-Head APAC, Verizon Media.
Performing on a Yahoo-tailored xR stage that extended to the moon and vibed with Mok’s luscious beats, Mok brought a sign of hope and positivity to her fans through the song. “We have to keep fighting in 2021 and continue to defy all obstacles ahead of us. Music can surely give us the motivation to do so,” the songstress commented.
Mok revealed that she had been producing new Cantonese songs and hoped to host a concert in Hong Kong in 2021. “I hope to create a memorable concert to come because I haven’t had a concert in this city for more than a decade!”

In line with the awards’ #PassionMoments tagline, we asked some of our favourite personalities on what drives them.
Former actress and radio DJ Jamie Yeo, who now helms the casual fine jewellery brand, Lula J is “Yahoo Singapore Most Searched Female Personalities” for 2020.

On her future projects for 2021, Yeo shared that “My kids are my biggest and most challenging ongoing project. They never fail to make me smile, and frown and want to pull my hair out.” The entrepreneur had launched her jewellery brand in 2020 and “is still fairly small.” For 2021, Yeo wishes to bring her brand to greater heights, to “make it bigger and better this year.”
After his role in Story of Yanxi Palace, Lawrence Wong shot to fame, clinching awards after awards. For his #PassionMoments, Wong, who was awarded “Yahoo Singapore Most Searched Male Personalities” last year, let on that his survival skill for 2021 is “my ability to turn on my work beast mode because after having such a long break in 2020 due to the pandemic, my work schedule has been filling up really fast.”
