For this abducted woman, it pays to have presence of mind.
A woman kidnapped in Quezon City has been successfully rescued in Davao, a city known for its tough law implementation.
In an interview with DzBB, PNP Region 11 police director Chief Superintendent Jaime Morente said the kidnap victim, Sally Chua suggested to pay the multi-million ransom for her freedom in Davao City. She was abducted July 5.
Morente noted that Chua, who was brought to Mindanao via a roll-on-roll-off vessel, was confident she would be rescued by authorities in Davao City--and she was right.
Chua was rescued after cops shot it out with the abductors around 12:30 pm Thursday, amid Davao City Mayor Rudy Duterte reported shoot-to-kill order against 14 members of the kidnap group.
The police official added that on Thursday afternoon, the abductors already booked Chua a flight back to Manila after buying her “pomelos and other fruits” to take home.
In another interview aired over DzMM, the Davao City Police said the abductors initially demanded a P100-million ransom from Chua before the amount was eventually lowered to P15 million.
They noted the suspects were about to withdraw the ransom from Chua’s account in an Allied Bank branch in Claveria, Davao City when the encounter took place.
The Davao City Police said police units from Metro Manila intercepted the abductors, who were trying to leave on board three brand new Montero vehicles.
The shootout left two suspects dead and one wounded. Another supposed kidnapper was arrested.
Police authorities, however, are still pursuing the remaining of the kidnap-for-ransom group who managed to escape.
