Woman found drunk in charge of four children on EasyJet flight

A mother has admitted being drunk in charge of a child after being found slumped unconscious on an EasyJet flight.

The unidentified 31-year-old woman was said to have been discovered asleep on the flight from Munich to Gatwick following a skiing trip.

According to The Mirror, she had been looking after her four children at the time of the incident and had been swigging vodka on the plane from her hand-luggage.

The German national was “aggressive and somewhat heavy handed with her children” despite one of them having suffered a skiing injury.

She pleaded guilty to one count of being drunk in charge of a child under seven years of age on January 6th this year when she appeared at Crawley Magistrates Court.

The woman received a 12 month community order of a medium intensity alcohol treatment for six months.

She must also attend an eight-day rehabilitation activity requirement, and was ordered to pay £85 costs and a victim surcharge of £90.

David Holman, prosecuting, said: "She was first noticed on board the EasyJet flight from Munich to London Gatwick exhibiting strange behaviour with the crew.

"She also looked to be aggressive and somewhat heavy handed with her children. One air stewardess said she seemed to be totally out of it.

"She was drinking two-thirds of a bottle of vodka from her hand luggage, and when the flight landed she remained slumped in her chair with her children nearby. Police were called.

"She tried to walk to the front of the plane, but couldn't physically walk in a straight line without holding onto the aircraft.

"She ignored her phone ringing and her children. She was slurring her words and unsteady on her feet."

He added: "Police arrived at Gatwick airport and arrested her and charged her with being found drunk in a public place, while having the charge of a child under the age of seven years."
