The girlfriend of a 29-year-old man who was stabbed to death last December wrote a moving message on his Facebook page just hours after he was killed. But in a cruel twist, it has now emerged that she was one of his murderers.
Mark Shaw was discovered by police at his home in Newcastle with 80 injuries, having been violently stabbed, reports the BBC. Shortly after, tributes to the young man began to gather on his Facebook page - including one from Mark's girlfriend, 20-year-old Zoe Warren.
According to News.com.au, The young woman described in her message how Mark had been her "soul partner". Most of the words in the post are misspelt, but the gist of it was that the deceased man had been her best friend, and she had been left with a broken heart following his murder.
"Akeep waitin 2 wake up frm this nightmare,” the message read.
It went on to say Mark had supported and looked after her when no-one else was around, and how she had planned to spend her entire life with him. "Nothing would make me more happy ryt now then 2 come home n Cuddle ya Babe," the post concluded.
But 10 months later, Zoe Warren has been convicted of her boyfriend's murder along with 19-year-old Kieran Adey. A court heard this week how Mark Shaw had died as a result of blood loss from two stab wounds in his back. He had several other violent injuries.
It's thought that Adey and Warren, both class A drug users, killed Mr Shaw, also a class A drug user, in a fit of rage after a dispute over £5.
Judge James Goss told the court it was impossible to determine exactly which one of the two had inflicted the fatal knife wound, but both were found guilty of murder because of the clear intention to kill.
Both Adey and Warren have been sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 17 years.
