A 21-YEAR-OLD woman was reportedly raped by the cousin of her live-in partner in a village in the presence of her children in Asturias town, Cebu at 2 a.m. Sunday, July 17, 2022.

The suspect, a neighbor of the victim, was caught by police in a warrantless arrest operation on the same day, at 4:20 p.m.

The arrest came after the victim and her partner reported the crime to the police station at 8:45 a.m. Sunday.

Based on the police report, the woman was sleeping with her two children -- one is two years old, while the other is still an infant, one month old. She was later awoken by a noise, then she noticed the suspect, 26, entering her house through the window.

The victim froze in fear. When the suspect, a construction worker, was already inside the house, he grabbed her and choked her -- he warned that something bad would happen to her and her two children if she would scream.

Afraid of the threat, the victim did not move and the suspect raped her. The suspect fled the neighborhood after committing the crime.

Police said the victim’s husband, also a construction worker, was in Cebu City at the time. When he arrived at the house, the victim narrated what had happened to her and they then sought help from the Asturias Police Station’s Women and Children’s Protection Desk.

The suspect denied raping the live-in partner of his cousin. He will be facing a complaint for alleged violation of Republic Act 8353, or the Anti-Rape Law of 1997. (GPL/KAL)
