Workup then play up

EMBATTLED forward Calvin Abue-va has revealed that he needs to complete his psychological therapy sessions before he can be reinstated into the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Much has been said about Abueva’s suspension, which has already gone beyond a year and PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial’s reluctance to go into the details of the former’s situation other than saying Abueva’s still needed to complete some requirements before he could be reinstated in the league.

In the Tiebreaker Vods’ 2OT presented by SMART Sport podcast on Saturday, June 13, 2020, Abueva finally shed light on his current situation and said he was almost finished with his therapy sessions but was derailed when the Covid-19 pandemic broke out.

“Sayang nga nagka-pandemya, hindi natuloy-tuloy ‘yung sessions ko (Too bad the pandemic came, my sessions didn’t push through),” he said during the podcast.

The fiery Phoenix forward mentioned that he had already attended two sessions and bared that these have helped him tremendously.

“Sa dalawang psychological sessions ko, nakatulong sa akin at nakatulong sa buhay ko. Ang dami kong na-improve sa buhay ko.”

Abueva incurred the wrath of the league during the 2019 Commissioner’s Cup for two separate incidents. First was the alleged lewd gestures he made towards the girlfriend of Talk N Text wingman Ray Parks and then the clothesline he landed on TnT import Terrence Jones several days later.

Since then, Abueva has apologized for those incidents and has gotten himself busy with community services such as helping those who were affected by the Taal Volcano eruption back in January. And during these trying times, the man known as “The Beast” has channeled his energies towards helping more people by cooking food from his very own restaurant—Dampa Ni The Beast—and distributing these to the needy and frontliners.

“’Yung mga pinapagawa nilang community service dinoble ko pa, kasi opportunity ko rin sa buhay ko na makatulong,” Abueva shared. (JNP)
