Xchange Forex-2000 wins Division A crown in 25th SHAABAA basketball tournament

THE Xchange Forex-2000 closed out the successful staging of the 25th season of the Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Association (SHAABAA) with a 68-64 win over the Magis Medical Fund-1997 in Game 2 of the finals to annex the championship in Division A last Friday at the Magis Eagles Arena.

It was a nip-and-tuck match but in the end, the collective experience and savvy of Batch 2000 came through, allowing them to win Game 2 and sweep the best-of-three affair, 2-0.

Johannes Chua saved his best for last, as he had 19 points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists. He was named the Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP).

Dave Ting added 16 points, while Serg Al Go Bui had 14 points, seven rebounds, an assist, and a steal. The scrappy guard was also named Division A’s MVP of the regular season.

Roderick Mangubat led Batch 1997 with 17 points, while Walter Ong pitched in 15.

The SHAABAA Awards Night was also held last Friday as the league recognized the season’s most outstanding performers.

In Division A, the Coach of the Year award went to Pablo Yu of Batch 1997, the Sportsmanship Award was given to 1997’s Walter Ong, while the Mythical Five was composed of 1994’s Joel Co, 1996’s Junie Alejandro, 1997’s Mangubat, and 2000’s Go Bui and Ting.

Over in Division B, the season MVP was given to 2011’s Bernard Chioson, the Coach of the Year was 2003’s Mike Reyes, the Sportsmanship Award was handed to 2008’s Ed Macasling, while the Mythical Five was composed of 2011’s Chioson and Bradley Bacaltos, 2004’s Franco Te, 2003’s Darylle Tan, and 2007’s Leigh Dixon.

Finally in Division C, 2013’s Rendell Senining was deemed the season MVP and was part of the Mythical Five alongside his teammate Fletcher Galvez, 2012’s Rev-Rev Diputado and Mavii Suarez, and 2014’s Lucky Ecarma.
