Yahoo Philippines takes a glimpse at its most-viewed photos of the year.

World's safest – and least safe – countries in 2021

The Philippines was ranked dead last by an international business magazine in its list of safest countries worldwide this year.

The Global Finance’s World Safest Countries 2021 ranked 134 countries on July 6, taking into account factors such as war and peace, personal security, and natural disaster risk including the “unique risk factors stemming from COVID-19.”

According to Global Finance, the top 5 safest countries are Iceland, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Singapore and Finland. Meanwhile the 5 least safe nations are Brazil, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nigeria, Guatemala, Colombia and the Philippines.

Global Finance described the Philippines as having "serious civil conflict that has high risks from natural disasters."

Filipinos' love affair with the Miss Universe pageant is as strong as ever as they tuned in to the beauty contest's second pageant of the year.

Miss India Harnaaz Sandhu bested 79 other contestants to claim the prestigious Miss Universe 2021 title in Eilat, Israel. Miss Philippines Beatrice Luigi Gomez made it to the Top 5.

Japan marked the 10th anniversary of a powerful 9.0 magnitude earthquake that struck northeast Japan on March 11, 2011 triggering a deadly tsunami and causing a catastrophic nuclear meltdown. Almost 16,000 people were killed and thousands other were either injured or left missing in one of the Japan's worst disasters in recent history. Ten years on, the disasters still trigger painful memories.
