The Philippines ranked 69th happiest country in the world, according to a report.
The nation moved two notches up from its 71st place last year.
The 2019 World Happiness Report says the Philippines is among the top 20 “gainers” this year in the ranking of 156 countries.
The Philippines is the third happiest country in Southeast Asia. Singapore and Thailand ranked first and second, respectively.
The report used “six key variables” to rank the country by happiness, namely GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and absence of corruption.
Despite the world rankings, a local survey found more Filipinos were less happy with their lives in the fourth quarter of 2018.
The survey showed 87 per cent of Filipinos considered themselves “very or fairly happy” with their lives. This represents a 7-point decline from the 94 per cent recorded in a similar survey in December 2017.
The 13 per cent “unhappiness score” was also the highest since the 15 per cent in December 2014.
