More than a year after the coronavirus was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization, Malacañang Palace rated the government's crisis management as "excellent".
Compared to wealthier nations, the Philippines was able to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease, according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
"We were excellent. We have controlled the spread of the disease especially when we compared with richer countries that have modern hospitals," Roque said during one of his briefings.
The Philippines' total confirmed infections crossed the 900,000 mark on Thursday (April 15). The death toll is also inching toward 16,000 fatalities.
Slightly over 1 million Filipinos have been vaccinated against the virus, representing just over 1% of its 108 million population. The government is aiming to inoculate 50-70 million Filipinos this year.
