Young captain is new Argao chief

A 25-YEAR-OLD captain has been appointed as the new head of Argao town’s local police after its previous chief was arrested for sleeping with a female inmate inside his office.

Capt. Elstone Dabon III formally assumed as Argao town police chief after he was appointed by Col. Roderick Mariano, the director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office.

Dabon replaced Maj. Ildefonso Miranda Jr., who was arrested by operatives of the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group-Visayas on Thursday night, March 5, 2020, after he was caught sleeping with a female drug inmate inside his quarters at the police station.

Miranda admitted to having relations with Jean Claudia Villanueva, which forced him to not put her in jail with the other drug inmates in the town.

Mariano said following Miranda’s arrest, he summoned the town’s entire police force to talk to them about the incident.

They admitted they didn’t report Miranda’s antics to their superiors out of fear that the latter might retaliate against them.

Despite their explanation, members of the town police was required to formally explain why they should not be held liable for Miranda’s antics.

Mariano also reminded Dabon to do his duty and avoid following Miranda’s example.

Criminal and administrative charges are set to be filed against Miranda on Monday, March 9.

Meanwhile, Dabon admitted that his current stint in Argao will be his first as a town police chief.

He vowed to implement massive operations against all criminal activities in the town.

“We will bring back the good image of the Argao Police Station,” Dabon told SunStar Cebu.

He was also surprised that social media posts on his appointment went viral.

He was also surprised at and embarassed by some of the comments made by netizens but thanked them for the support.

Dabon, a native of Mandaue City, is the son of former Mandaue City councilor Elstone Dabon Jr. He is a graduate of the Philippine National Police Academy Class of 2016. (AYB / JKV)
