Z Club receives service award

THE Z Club of Zonta Club of Cebu 2 was among the recipients of the 2020 Zonta International Emma L. Conlon Service Award.

The award is given to Z and Golden Z Clubs that implement projects expressing the ideals of Zonta International, including women empowerment and education.

Zonta Club of Cebu 2’s Z Club, through its Childlink High School, placed second among a selection of hundreds of Z Clubs all over the world. This was the only Z Club in the Philippines that qualified and was given an accolade.

The Childlink High School’s Z Club Project chaired by Zn. Tess Tio has been of service to the advocacy of women and children over the years. The activities done in this project include spreading awareness and shared some facts on the effects of teenage pregnancy to the lives of the youth in the community, understanding good values, values redirection and team building workshops. Zn. Tess Tio spearheads and guides the Z Club through the leadership of Zonta Club of Cebu 2 president, Zn. Marilou Cañizares.

“This award is truly icing on the cake,” Cañizares said.

She added: “As we reap this award, we are humbled as well because this Service Award is a manifestation that there are issues about women and children that continue to linger, such as violence, teenage pregnancy, human trafficking etc., and these need to be stopped.”
