THE Zonta Club of Cebu 1 has launched its search for “Ten Outstanding Public High School Graduates (TOPHSG),” in cooperation with the Department of Education Cebu City Division Office as part of its advocacy to elevate womens’ rights to education in the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 10 selected high school graduates will each be awarded with a P20,000 one-time cash assistance to jump-start their college journey like the buying of gadgets for online classes.
“They will also be called one of the Zonta Club of Cebu 1 TOPSHG awardees. Education is an essential pillar for women empowerment,” Zonta Club of Cebu 1 president Gina Atienza said.
The club’s chairman of the education committee Rufina Tancham cited the qualifications as one of the Top 3 graduating students in their class, must be of good moral character and must have exemplary performance in extracurricular activities.
Applicants, male or female, must secure a recommendation from their principal, duly certified report cards from Grade 11 to Grade 12, certification of good moral character from the guidance counselor and certification of active extra curricular activities from the school principal.
Interested applicants can submit a physical copy of their application letter and the requirements addressed to Adah Chiu, Zonta TOPHSG Secretariat at Unit 10-O, Avenir Bldg., Archbishop Reyes Ave., Lahug, Cebu City.
Deadline of submission will be on Aug. 15, 2021.
Education committee co-chair Dr. Mathea Baguia emphasized that the primary goal of the project is to educate the public about the presence of Zonta in the community.
“Zonta’s mission to empower women and girls on different dimensions of life particularly on health, education, livelihood, women’s rights and no to violence against women and girls through service and advocacy which is its main thrust,” she said.
She added that the main objective of the project is to provide opportunities for the poor and mentally gifted public high school students to pursue a college degree especially in the flexible modalities of learning with the use of gadgets. (JOB)
