Zulueta, Gomez victorious; Alfante loses in Thailand

JOHN Michael Zulueta and Herlan Gomez were victorious in Bangkok, Thailand on Aug. 3, while less than 40 kilometers away in Bang Phli, Chris Alfante lost in an International Boxing Federation Pan Pacific super flyweight contest.

Zulueta made quick work of Somphon Banyaem and destroyed him in the opening round at the RCA Plaza - Space Plus Bar.

Zulueta dropped Banyaem three times, which forced referee Munee Limmongkolchaikul to stop it at the 1:50 mark.

Zulueta kept his unbeaten record and improved to 13-0-2 with six knockouts, while Banyaem fell to 6-7 with six knockouts.

Meanwhile, Gomez outclassed previously undefeated Thai knockout artist Sarawut Jiamthong by unanimous decision.

Gomez got the nod of all three Thai judges with identical 59-55 scores in all scorecards.

Gomez is now 5-0 with two knockouts, while Jiamthong suffered his first career loss and fell to 6-0 with six knockouts.

On the other hand, Alfante lost to Aran Dipaen via a lopsided unanimous decision at the Kiatkririn Fitness & Martial Art.

Dipaen won with scores of 119-109, 118-110 and 118-110.

Alfante suffered his third defeat in his last five fights. He dropped to 18-10-1 with 10 knockouts, while Dipaen improved to 14-3 with 12 knockouts.
